Grid-tied or hybrid inverter?
Choose by system architecture, not just power.
Grid-tied inverter
The main purpose is to convert solar DC energy into AC energy suitable for the grid and building loads. Having solar panels does not itself mean they will power the home during a grid outage.
Hybrid inverter
Can manage compatible storage, but battery voltage and communication depend on the model. Backup output, its power and isolation from the grid must be checked separately.
Inverter–charger
Solutions such as Victron MultiPlus-II are used in individually designed systems. Solar modules require a separate MPPT controller or a correctly matched PV inverter.
Before selecting, note module specifications, connection capacity, phases and desired battery. View inverter manufacturers.
Existing solar panels and future storage
If you already have solar panels, first note your inverter model. Storage may require a compatible hybrid inverter or a separate storage solution. Choose the final design after assessing existing equipment and connection conditions, not just the word “hybrid” in a description.
What should I compare in quotations?
- Number of phases, rated AC power and permitted module DC power.
- MPPT count, operating voltage and input currents for the selected strings.
- LV or HV battery connection and approved battery models.
- Backup output power, switching and selected loads.
- Dynamic export limiting and the required meter.
Module and inverter capacity calculation examples helps you start choosing, but does not replace a technical check of the specific model. Check battery compatibility.
