Grid settlement options for solar prosumers
ESO grid service and your electricity supply contract are different. This page explains the calculator scenarios; verify current prices and your own contract terms with the official sources.
Grid recovery fee
A grid-use fee applies to exported energy later recovered from the grid. Energy consumed immediately on site is not recovered from the grid.
Energy retention settlement
Part of exported energy is retained by the operator for grid service; recovery of the remainder follows the accounting rules and contract.
Surplus sale
This is a separate calculator scenario: surplus is valued under your supply or purchase contract, and electricity needed later is bought. It is not a separate ESO network tariff; pricing and deductions follow the contract.
Direct consumption only
The calculator values only generation consumed on site, assigning no benefit to exported surplus. This is a calculation scenario, not an official ESO settlement plan.
Other ESO settlement options
ESO also publishes settlement based on permitted generation capacity and on the transmission-service tariff. The current ELPOWER calculator does not model these two options separately. Availability depends on your status, accounting and contract; this page does not replace the official terms.
When should you consider a battery?
A battery can move daytime production to evening use and reduce grid exchanges. Its value depends on hourly consumption, surplus, battery price, losses and your contract. Higher capacity alone does not guarantee faster payback.
